On Tuesday 12th September 2007, my wonderful partner Joy and I departed from our new home at Currumbin on the long road to Adelaide.
After initial concerns about how the kayak would travel at 100kmph strapped to the roof of the Corolla, there were no problems. We took the route passing through Ballina, Tenterfield, Armidale, Tamworth, Gunnedah and were aiming to end the first night at Dubbo. By 9pm, it was quite clear that was not going to happen. In a first stroke of good luck we reached Coonabarabran just before 10pm, only minutes before the hotel office closed for the night. After 800km on the road, sleeping in the car would have made for some really cranky travellers on day 2.
